Photo & Video Guidelines

Student safety is a priority

Students' parents must sign and turn in the Internet/Local Cable Release Form (requires Adobe Reader to view) before photos or videos of their children may be posted on a district website. Teachers and administrators who want to post photos or videos that include students are responsible for following district guidelines. A few quick things to remember:
  • If a studetnt is in a photo, the caption that accompanies the photo should not mention the student's name.
  • If a student is in a video, the student's name should not be mentioned in the video sound track, in the credits, or even in the text outside the video.
  • A student's first name only can be used online when giving credit for work they have done as long as that work does not include a photo or video of that student. For example, a teacher could post a photo of a student's painting of some fruit and the caption next to it could say, "This still life was painted by 7th grader Tommy." If a student edited a photo or video, a teacher could write "This video was edited by Sara" as long as Sara is not in the actual video.
  • A student's last name is never mentioned online in any circumstance.
  • No personal information about students should ever be posted online.

Before a photo or video may be posted online

  • Teachers must make sure that all students in the photo or video have a signed Internet/Local Cable Release Form (requires Adobe Reader to view) on file with the school. Librarian Karen Joesten keeps a master list of the students who do not have permission.
  • Make sure there is not anything offensive in any of the photos or videos including gang signs, etc.
  • Photos that did not turn out well should be deleted.
