ALGEBRA 1A

Course Information Sheet

Required Materials:  1 1/2” binder with dividers, binder paper, an unlimited supply of pencils, erasers and 2 pens

Optional Materials: Metric ruler, calculator, stapler, pencil sharpener

BELLWORK:

You will have a 5-7 minute long assignment to do as soon as you walk into the classroom to get those mathematical juices flowing and review the previous day’s work. One week of bell work per page will be collected every Friday.   A heading is required on each page, each assignment must be dated. No make ups for missed bellwork.

 NOTES:  Notes will be taken from the overhead on a daily basis to introduce/explain new topics as well as define new terms. A heading is required. 

HOMEWORK:Homework will be assigned daily.  The format for homework is as follows:1.      ALWAYS use a pencil (except when correcting).  Erasable pen is NOT okay.2.      Use the proper heading as shown on the walls of all of your classrooms.3.      Use two columns, numbering your paper from top to bottom.4.      Show ALL of your work at ALL times.5.      Turn homework in ON TIME! Late work will be collected in the weekly packet and gets some credit. Late work is not accepted after the packet is due.6.      Correct errors in pen, in class.  Uncorrected homework will not be accepted.Homework will be checked on a daily basis and collected as a packet every Friday, along with bellwork. Assignments that are completed on-time will be marked with a stamp. A parent signature will be required on the packet cover sheet every Thursday.

ASSESSMENTS:This consists of quizzes, tests, performance assessments, and projects that you do in class.  TEST CORRECTIONS are allowed for half credit when the proper format is followed (to be explained in class). 

ABSENCES:If you are absent, there are folders on the back counter that will have the information that you missed.  You will have one day for each day of your absence to make up your work. If you don’t want to fall behind, call the following number while you are out: 

HOMEWORK HOTLINE :   423-3795 extension 3778                  If you know you are going to be absent, you should ALWAYS find out what you are going to miss BEFORE you are absent. If you will be out for more than a few days, have the office send out a homework sheet to all of your teachers.   

GRADING:Your grade will be weighted as follows:

1.      Assessments:  60%

2.      Bellwork:         15%

3.      Homework:    25%

 The grading scale is as follows:

A:   90-100%                                                                                     B:   80-89%                                                                                       C:   70-79%                                                                                      D:   60-69%                                                                                      F:    below 60% 

ASSISTANCE:I am available to help you before school, after 7:30am and after school, if I am not coaching, after 2:30pm   FREE after school tutoring may be available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.Please don’t hesitate to ask for help, it shows that you are intelligent enough to ask questions and that you care about your grade.
