Required Materials: A composition book and a Health section in your binder.
QUICK-WRITES:
When you enter the classroom, you will be required to copy down and answer the question you will see on the overhead, in your composition book. You must have at least a paragraph response and have a proper heading on every page (QW# and question written down). There are no wrong answers for QW’s.
CLASSWORK:Classwork will be assigned as a worksheet or from the Health textbook and you will be required to complete it in class. Incomplete classwork will require you to stay after school in order to finish.
HOMEWORK:Homework will be assigned, on occasion. It will usually consist of a worksheet or a hand-written assignment, usually requiring internet access.
NOTES: Notes will be taken, on occasion. A heading is required.
ASSESSMENTS:This consists of quizzes, tests, and projects that you do in class. Some projects will be individual assignments and some will be group assignments.
ABSENCES:If you are absent, there is a folder on the back counter that will have the class work and/or homework that you missed. You will have one day for each day of your absence to make up the work. If you want to stay caught up and care about your grade, call:

If you know you are going to be absent, you should ALWAYS find out what you are going to miss BEFORE you are absent, rather than fall behind. Homework requests for all of your classes can be made through the office if you are going to be gone for more than a couple of days.

A: 90-100%
B: 80-89%
C: 70-79%
D: 60- 69%
F: below 60% |

GRADING: Your grade will be weighted as follows: Assessments: 50% Homework: 20% In-class assignments: 30%
ASSISTANCE:I am available to help you before school, at 7:30am and after school when I am not coaching. FREE after-school tutoring may also be available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please don’t hesitate to come in for help, it shows that you are intelligent enough to ask questions and that you care about your grade!J
TOPICS TO BE COVERED (based on SCUSD standards):
· Hygiene – Students will learn to practice responsible hygeine
- Diseases – Students will gain information on diseases (viruses, bacteria, transmission and prevention)
************* This will include Sexually Transmitted Diseases********************
- Chemicals – Students will understand the negative impact that alcohol, tobacco and other drugs have on the body. Much of this topic will be covered by the Life Skills curriculum in cooperation with a DARE officer.
- Nutrition – Students will understand the need to develop and maintain a healthy and balanced diet as well as the importance of exercise.
- Relationships– Students will learn to develop positive relationships with their family, friends and community. Some time will be spent on their relationship with our planet, focusing on the 3 R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
