Before you start you might want to read up on how to search or Web Search Strategies. Once you get some results you might want to evaluate them. Here are some tips.
- Google--A general search engine, good for quick searches.
- Yahoo--Another general search engine, it is in directory format so it is good for browsing subject areas.
- Ask Jeeves--A different type of format, still useful.
- Dogpile--A search engine that ranks your results and offers suggestions and related subjects.
- Librarians Index to theInternet--An Internetdirectory of all possible research subjects edited by librarians. This is great for research--sources are limited but good.

- American Memory--A great place for primary source material especially pictures.
- Nasa Home Page--Everything that you wanted to know about space, and pictures too!
- Internet Modern History Sourcebook--A history database that has a ton of information.
- Food and Nutrition Education Center--Great information on nutrition and health-related issues.
- Smithsonian Institution--A good source for exhibitions on Art, History, and the Sciences.

- The Biographical Dictionary--Find brief biographical information on more than 25,000 people past and present.
- http://www.wisdomportal.com/Biography/Biography.html--Lives, The Biographical Resource links to thousands of biographies, autobiographies memoirs, diaries, letters, narratives, oral histoies and more
- The Time 100--Biographies of 100 individuals who have made significant impacts on the world in the last 100 years. Twenty individuals are profiled in each of 5 different categories: 'Leaders and Revolutionaries,' 'Artists and Entertainers,' 'Builders and Titans,' 'Scientists and Healers,' and 'Heroes and Inspirations.'
- Women's Biographies: Distinguished Women of Past and Present--'This site has biographies of women who contributed to our culture in many different ways. There are writers, educators, scientists, heads of state, politicians, civil rights crusaders, artists, entertainers, and others. Some were alive hundreds of years ago and some are living today.'

- Atlapedia Online--Atlapedia Online contains full color physical and political maps as well as key facts and statistics on countries of the world.
- CIA Online Factbook--A great online atlas!
- Information Please--An online research tool that includes many other types of references.
- Online Dictionary--A place to look up words.

- Quotations--If you need something to spice up a paper.
- http://flagsoftheworld.com Flags of the World (FOTW) is the Internet's largest site devoted to vexillology (the study of flags).' You may choose from a country list, or click on a map to find a flag. Included in each entry is a description of each flag.
- Geography-Merriam Webster's Atlas--Select a country or state from the pull-down menus. Each entry contains a map, brief facts on the type of government found, population, land use, etc. Included for each entry is a small picture of that nation's flag with a brief history of the flag, its symbols, and origin.
- World Flag Database--Use the alphabetical index on the left side of the page to find a listing of countries. Thumbnail pictures of maps are linked to additional pages containing brief factual information on each nation and a large color image of the flag.
Calculators and Conversion Tables
- Approximate Conversions to Metric Measures Chart--Approximations for converting distance, area, mass, volume, and temperature.
- Calculator.com --'Online calculators to help solve problems and answer questions in the home, office, and school. There are calculators for finance, business, science, cooking, hobbies, and health.'
- Nova Roma: Roman Numeral Conversion--Type in a number up to 4000 and click to convert it to a Roman numeral, or type in the Roman numeral and convert into Arabic (standard) numbers.
- Universal Currency Converter--At this interactive site, you can type in an amount and convert from one international currency to another.
